SOFT LENSES: SO SOFT
WHAT IS A CONTACTLENS ?
It is a plastic layer that floats on the tear film. Given the eye is a very solid body, this is perfectly tolerated. Only if handled carelessly, there are risks of eye damage. Usually this can be cured with appropriate treatment, no operative scars.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SOFT AND A HARD LENS? :
-
Soft lenses are comfortable from the start
-
Soft lenses can also occasionally be worn ( in sports or for party's)
-
Soft lenses stay better in place , which is important in contact sports.
-
Hard lenses are curiously better for your eyes (because the material is better tolerated), but they give more irritation the first month than soft lenses.
-
A soft lens is regarded as a sponge in water, it sucks up dirt and microbes, so your eye is easily irritated, especially if maintenance is not optimal. If maintenance is done properly then there are really no problems with soft lenses, especially since we now replace the lenses faster (monthly or even daily).
-
Moreover, the latest lenses ( "super lenses") retain the moist in the eye. So you can't get dry eyes, one problem less for soft lenses!
-
Hard lenses can be used longer It is said that hard lenses inhibit the development of myopia, but that doesn't seem the case
Conclusion:
In practice, we opt for soft lenses if possible, because these lenses are comfortable from the start
