WHY DO YOU REGULAR NEED
EYE EXAMINATION WHEN YOU
HAVE GLAUCOMA?

YOU DON'T FEEL ANYTHING
BUT YOUR EYE CAN GET BLIND
SLOWLY
WHEN THE EYE PRESSURE
IS TO HIGH!

Oxygen problems caused by congestion of retinal venous vessels
  • BY TOO HIGH BLOODPRESSURE OR "TOO THICK BLOOD" CAN CAUSE BLEEDINGS AND LEAKAGES AT THE BACKSIDE OF THE EYE. THESE REDUCE THE VISION.

  • COMPLETE

  • TACTTROMBOSE

  • EVOLUTION

  • BY POSTERIOR CONGESTION OF BLOODVESSELS, THERE WILL BE CREATED NEW BLOODVESSELS, WHO EASILY BLEED AND DRY WITH FORMATIONS OF TYRES WHO CAN PULL THE RETINA OFF

  • ON BASE OF A COLORED INJECTION (FLUOGRAPHY) WE CAN DETECT THE NEW BLOODVESSELS AND LEAKAGES

  • WITH LASER WE CAN ELIMINATE THE ILL ZONES, SO NEW BLOODVESSELS AND LEAKAGES WILL DISSAPEAR. YOUR VISION WILL NOT FURTHER REDUCE AND MAY EVEN IMPROVE!

THROMBOSIS OF THE RETINA (limited / generalized / central)

WHAT IS A THROMBOSIS

The eye is a spherical body. At the back of this body, lays the retina, which provides the actual seeing. This membrane contains many blood vessels. These feed arteries and draining veins. For some reason (atherosclerosis caused by hypertension or diabetes, too high intraocular pressure, too "thick" blood) it can obstruct the main artery or one of the smaller arteries.

CONSEQUENCES

This leads, in view of the POOR DRAINAGE, into swelling of the entire vascular system, which results in small cracks in the vessels, allowing the retina to penetrates with blood and fluid ("thrombosis"), which disturbs the function (in mild or worse rate).

Given the thrust a poor supply of fresh blood occurs, certain areas of the retina facing an OXYGEN PROBLEM. These areas stimulate  the existing blood vessels, to form new blood vessels. Unfortunately these NEW BLOOD VESSELS BLEED EASILY (so that the visibility worsened) or dries after a while, with the formation of strong fibers that gradually shrink, which causes a traction on the retina. This could eventually result in a difficult retinal detachment wich is hard to treat, again due to extremely poor vision. Sometimes these new blood vessels will grow to front, so they end up in the internal fluid drainage of the eye. Such blockage can cause a severe pressure rise (40 to 50 mm Hg, where the pressure is normally between 10 to 20 mm Hg range). This will  lead to pain and will soon leads to blindness of the eye.

HOW WE CAN TO AVOID SERIOUS COMPLICATIONS?

By IMPROVING BLOOD CIRCULATION and lowering the eye pressure (Betoptic eyedrops) and making the blood less "thick" it (by using blood-thinning medication including Aspirin tablets: eg Asaflow).

We can detect the leaking vessels and areas with blood vessel blockage (ie oxygen deficiency)  by using fluorescence angiography. These areas should be selectively ELIMINATED BY LASER (read: bright light that places firepoints in the retina and thus eliminates the diseased areas. This is oddly enough almost painless. The inside of the eye is not that sensitive). It should be clear that certain complications emerge only after 1 or 2 years. Regular checks after the incident therefore are appropriate.

HOW EVOLVES THE VISION?

With the treatment we try to PRESERVE WHAT IS THERE, because the possible complications are threatening the rest of the sight. So we are already happy, if everything remains stable! May be hoped that the vision slowly improves (over months), especially by young people. The drying effect of the laser contributes slightly to this. Unfortunately the recuperation of the visus is regular disappointing, and must be concluded that a thrombosis is a severe injury, with periodic to permanent damage (cf. a thrombosis in the brains) what affects depth perception. What we guarantee is, that the feared rising pressure that could make the eye blind, certainly will not occur.
