HYPEROPIA / FARSIGHTEDNESS

WHAT IS HYPEROPIA?
Farsighted people see objects faraway clearly, but close everything is blurred (especially when tired).

REASON AND EVOLUTION
The eye is relatively too short (+3 diopters indicates 1 mm too short) so that the light through the lens of the eye makes an image BEHIND the retina rather than projected on the retina.

Short people are not necessarily weak people. Short eyes are therefore not so weak. This state (albeit slightly) is a normal condition in children ("the eye has to grow"). Children do not see poor because they operate to tighten the lens (an activity that normally only be done in close reading), so they can succeed to put the image ON the retina. However, since it is an activity that serves to read, the eyes automatically go inward. Thus, what is sometimes the cause of strabismus.

If this condition persists (especially if it is notable), farsightedness becomes a bigger problem. To tighten the lens in childhood is merely easy, but with aging the tightening may ask more and more effort (because the lens is stiffer). Thus it is stated that normal people aged 40 to 45 y need reading glasses. People who are farsighted are already using some of their reserve to read far away to see properly. Thereby certifying that they quickly need reading glasses. With aging ther will be also regular glasses for far to be called. This is not so much due to the fact that the eyes have become worse, but the fact that one can correct farsightedness less confident than before. At last one can still see a sharp (especially in the mornings when one is fresh), but it should be very force. The body is protesting against this with a headache in the evening.

SIGNS
It follows logically: farsighted patients do not read so much. In adults with frequent headache is hyperopia (rather typical: a pressure around the eyes), especially after a whole day visual effort or fatigue. Strabismus (inwards "eso") is possible in children with hyperopia because the effort to look sharp as a side effect, the inward turning of the eyes brings with it.

TREATMENT
Exercises and vitamins do not help. A positive glass (preferably organic glass, mineral glass is too heavy) or contact lenses moves the image ahead and so the image gets projected ON the retina. Farsighted patients are less ideal patients for contact lenses because they are regulated quite well without glasses. The lenses look thicker and because the contact center, which the conventions of the lens is not designed to benefit. Surgical correction (the "scratch" operation) for hyperopia isn't possible.
In the future, laser correction probably become possible. Please ask your specific information folder.

ASTIGMATISM

WHAT
To get a perfect image on the retina the front of the eye needs to be spherical. If the eye is more oval (egg-shaped) that distorts the image (the images are stretched) and it's called astigmatism.

IMPLICATIONS
This indicates poor vision and sometimes headaches! Usually this is congenital hereditary basis and does not change during life.

TREATMENT
The deviation is compensated with oval glasses ("cylinder glasses") witch get assembled in the opposite direction of the eye disorder (that's why the axis of a cylinder is so important). Cylinder glasses are sometimes difficult to get used to and sometimes it takes several days or a week. Astigmatism can disturb the "maturing" of sight,  wherefore a lazy eye can occur. Astigmatism should therefore be corrected early (preferably before the age of six). Toric soft lenses (lenses = cylinder) are possible. If relevant, hard lenses!
