READING PROBLEM
when you reach the age of 40- 45 years, your arms are getting too short to read
"PRESBYOPIA": READING GLASSES PROBLEM

From 40 years (faster = positive correction for far sightedness)

1. Why do I suddenly have to start with reading glasses at the age of 40-45?

The lens have to focus for near, like a camera (ie: make it more convex).
With aging, the lens is progressively stiffer, so that this process increasingly difficult and that can be felt from the age of 40 to 45 years (= You have to hold the text too far off).
It must also be prescribed as first aid (glasses that are slightly positive, added by the distance correction). Wearing those glasses at all close work allows your eyes less force, which will give you less headaches. With well-adjusted reading glasses, the text is to be kept exactly at the right distance (30 to 40 cm)!

Reading at other distances is possible, but you must specifically ask the ophthalmologist or the optician.
Recently, there are reading glasses wich allows a greater depthfield (from 30 cm to 1M: COSMOLIT P or analogues (existence of -1 to 4). Over time, the lens further stiffen and the reading glasses need to be strengthened (to 3y ). You can not prevent the strengthening by wearing the reading glasses as little as possible! At 65 years, the lens is very stiff and ther's no need to change the reading glasses anymore, unless there are "eye disease" coming on (eg cataracts). The magnifying glass will be 2.75 to 3 sums .

2. Correction options

SEPARATE READING GLASSES

In this option the reading segment is the largest. The disavantange of this option is that you must switch your glasses everytime you want to look far.
With a computerglass you can overlook the table. In people who do not need glasses to see far, this can be captured with a "half-moon glasses." You can easily look over the glasses to see far.

SEGMENT-GLASSES ("bifocal")
This is an option where you can see for far and near with only ONE pair of glasses, but the glass is much more expensive
(about € 150 a 250).
Furthermore, some adjustment is needed: to read, you look through the lower segment. You have good reason to keep your head straight and the newspapers rather low (read pride). If you take the stears or threshold, you have to remember that you must bend the head to the upper segment (ie segment for distance). If you do not, then you look trough the lower segment, which increased to read. Thus one gets the impression that the stage is larger (and thus more complete), which can lead to tripping.
After a few days you know those little tricks, however.

GRADUATED GLASSES ("progressive")
In this option you have all distances in ONE pair of glasses.
The aesthetically disturbing segment drag is removed, so they don't betray the age of the person (women find it quite important). Because the glasses gradually overflowing, can be seen quite well on the spacing of 1 to 3 m, which is interesting to look in shop windows (and prices to read!).

But there is another side to the coin:
1) The lenses are slightly more expensive (about € 300)
2) the adaptation is even more difficult compared to the segment glasses: in principle, the same rules, but more needs to be sought
to find the right strength in the glass, because it is in several layers. Especially when the strength difference between top and bottom of older people increases. Progressive spectacles can so easily get used at a younger age.
Nervous people are less tolerant.
3) The side view is slightly less perfect, which is annoying when driving a car.
You should more turning your head to the side mirrors to see and reversing is more difficult. For patients who want to make the effort to get used to such glasses, it seems that these glasses are best.
