"ectropion"
WHAT IS ECTROPION?
Ectropion is an outwardly turned edge of the lower eyelid. Ectropion causes symptoms such as tearing and irritated eyes because the eyes do not close enough. The tears are not drained through the tear roads because the tear duct to the nasal side of the lower lid is no longer in contact with the eye. The deviation is cosmetically disturbing, because the inside of the eyelid is visible, and hangs down. The mucosa of the lower eyelid may become thickened.
What happens during the operation?
The eye is anesthetized and prepared for surgery.
A horizontal incision is made under the eyelid.
The lower eyelid is cut vertically into the outer corner, the soft portion is shortened.
The lower eyelid is again attached to the outer corner.
Special sutures are placed deep in the eyelid, it will make the eyelid turn back inside.
The skin is attached.
