a) PHENOMENON

Many people get worried when they perceive suddenly a few spots in their visual perception, apparently hanging in the air, floating and moves with the movements of the eye ("flying flies" / "soap bubbles" / "wires"). They are best visible on bright backgrounds (white pages, ceiling, snow), but they disappear in the darkness.

b) CAUSE

1) Progressive caused by: "aging". The eye is considered to have a hollow sphere. Which is filled with a gel-like mass, clear as glass (hence the name "vitreous").
This mass consists of a uniform mixture of water and collagen threads. With age (as early as 20 years-especially with myopia!), This is going to separate.

2) suddenly occurred: by sudden "vitreous detachment"
If the "flies" suddenly appears, it is a vitreous detachment. The latter is a trivial age-related phenomenon, which consists of the progressive shrinking of the vitreous, so that the structure suddenly (from one day to another) detach from the retina (the membrane that lines the inside of the eyeball coated).
In myopia, where the eye is longer than normal, this happens faster than the others.
Sometimes a punch in the eye can be the provoking cause. Usually the course of this is symptom-free.
Frequently, however, disturbing vitreous bodies are fixed (former ties thv retina) right to the center again, what leads to the typical spots. Those early ties are stucked sometimes onto the retina so that express traction on the retina (fortunately usually temporary), which leads to typical flash symptoms.
Exceptionally there can arise minor bleedings (bigger by anticoagulant in blood!) or retina cracks, which can lead to a retinal detachement in a second time.
This couldn't be demonstrated at the present.
An inspection after one month is sometimes planned, developed retinal tears with certainty be excluded.
Who may possibly be treated with laser (virtually painless, no recording required) to prevent a retinal detachment would occur.
The latter could possibly be surgically repaired.
If the black spots and flashes significant increase, a consultation must be requested.
This must be done if a curtain would experience for the eyes.
Anti-inflammatory eye drops may be prescribed in the hope that their effect that can lead to a quicker absorption of the compounds (although this is not a panacea).
More that you have to hope that the old bonds sag by gravity sedimentation or digestion more transparent.
This usually takes several months.
The sagging can not happen if those ties still hang.
Thus it is stated that after many years some people still see those spots. If you see flashing lights, try to avoid sudden movements!
Some people may have a heart defect occur in the retina: macular hole.
It never gives no retinal detachment, but reduced visibility. If visibility is reduced to 3 / 10 or less, a stabilization operation in an academic center (and even some improvement entail).
Sometimes the bond can detach of the vitreous and remain on the retina.
This is especially true in the center of the retina: macular pucker.
By atrophy of the retina can be pulled into folds and surrounding blood vessels may leak. This too must be an academic center for surgery!
